Zermatt Festival 2012

In September, Zermatt is not only a very special experience for nature lovers: at the end of the summer, the Matterhorn village is also the perfect spot for music lovers. Since 2005, renowned soloists and ensembles from near and far have come to the Zermatt Festival to give classical music concerts in a magical environment.

The next Zermatt Festival takes place between 31 August and 16 September 2012. Once again, the international Chamber Music Academy forms the heart of the programme, where 32 students have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in various combinations ranging from quartets to chamber orchestra. The Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, whose members come from the ranks of the Berliner Philharmoniker, takes on the artistic direction of the rehearsals. The performance by the Scharoun Ensemble together with the baritone Stefan Genz, who gave such a moving and memorable interpretation of Schubert´s “Winterreise” last September, will certainly be one of the highlights of the programme.

The guest of honour at the 2012 Zermatt Festival will be the Swiss composer and saxophonist Daniel Schnyder. The New York-based "composer in residence" will not be the only performer of his own works on stage: he has also composed a new piece for the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin. This Zermatt premiere will be a very special event for musicians and audiences alike.

The festival´s preliminary programme will be announced on 1 March 2012. Online ticket sales also begin on this date at our website.
