Zermatt Festival Academy

They come from all over the world and are the great hope of the classical scene: every year in Zermatt, 32 young talented musicians come together to spend two weeks making music at the highest level.

As students of the Zermatt Festival Academy, they receive both valuable advice from the members of the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin and the opportunity to perform alongside them in chamber music and orchestral concerts.

They will accompany several soloists - including the soprano Mojca Erdmann, violinist Guy Braunstein and cellist Nicolas Altstaedt. Audiences also have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the intensive concert preparations at open rehearsals.

Guest performers

World famous musicians cross paths at the Matterhorn during the Zermatt Festival. Together with the teachers of the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin and several members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, two exceptional artists will add distinction to this year’s Zermatt Festival Academy.

The soprano Mojca Erdmann from Germany is one of the leading new young artists on the international stage. Whether in a traditional opera at the Met in New York or in a work of contemporary music theater at the Staatsoper Berlin – in her activities as a lieder and opera singer, she explores the diversity of the repertoire with boundless passion.

This year’s special guest is the Franco-German cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, who in his young career has already played with many major orchestras and chamber music partners. Just as Pablo Casals before him, he will use the peaceful environment of Zermatt to pass on his knowledge and experience to the Academy students.
