The Berlin-based Scharoun Ensemble had a long-cherished dream to found an exquisite music festival away from other large-scale ones. They also had a vision: to offer gifted music students from around the world the opportunity to work with members of the Berliner philharmoniker and learn from them in courses and joint concerts.
These two propositions became reality in Zermatt seven years ago. Even then, everyone involved was in agreement: for the Scharoun Ensemble, their guests and the young members of the Zermatt Festival Academy, the conditions at the foot of the Matterhorn are as unique as they are ideal. And nothing has changed to this day.
The incomparable scenic location alone has an inspiring effect on all artistic people. But the beautiful venues, the high levels of goodwill which the festival enjoys with the people of Zermatt, and of course not least the hospitality and generous support of numerous sponsors and supporters, create the best conditions for unique artistic encounters and unforgettable musical experiences far from the hubbub of everyday life.
All this makes the Zermatt Festival a highlight of the season every year: for the Scharoun Ensemble and members of the Zermatt Festival Academy, for the many internationally renowned guests who add extra sparkle to the concerts, and also for the audience.
